There are so many hostel-booking sites out there, it's nice to hear some pros and cons. I definitely second the CouchSurfing option, I've never actually surfed yet but I've hosted a bunch of groups and it's a really great organization, community, etc. Of the two other sites I know of with similar concepts, I haven't heard much about Global Freeloaders (www.globalfreeloaders.com), but I have heard very good reviews of Hospitality Club (www.hospitalityclub.org) in spite of its dry-sounding name.
