I hear that Julie. I guess what I was hoping for in this article was to generate conversations on how people used Ping effectively. I see it as very useful (albeit mechanical) for someone who has multiple blogs, spaces on tumblr, accounts at youtube, vimeo, and others, and simply wanted to update or publicize all at once that a new piece of content had come out. It definitely doesn't replace the content itself.

I tend to agree with Julie. Maybe a compromise is to use something like Seesmic desktop, which at least lets you monitor and interact with Twitter and Facebook at the same time. That takes care of two of the biggies, I guess. Still takes up far too much time if you aren't disciplined, mind...

Hmm. I'm not sure if I get this type of service. I view each of the platforms as having a different function and purpose, though there's some overlap in the followers and reach. If I'm just shooting out automated links to my own content, it kind of defeats the purpose of social media-- at least the purpose of social media as I see it. No doubt social media can be a time suck, but I think if you're just auto feeding, you're going to miss out on some conversations that can be game-changing for yourself and others.
