Hi Erin,

I've just started travel videos on our site -- the indie travel podcast. After one and a half years of audio work this is some transition! We're limited by what we can carry (we travel full time, so everything goes in the pack) and that means our digital camera has to stand in for a decent camcorder. God forbid carrying a real pro-am camera around!

I've got a background in film, TV and media studies so I know what I want it to look like. I'm afraid on an independent budget travel vlogging is really hard work and not for the faint hearted!

Cool article,
I think its great to encourage more people to become travel video producers.
In todays age with web video becoming so popular there are more and more venues to publish your work. For a link to one check
(in the spirit of Shameless Self promotion) www.compulsivetraveler.tv
Right now we are hosting a contest to make travel videos about your trip to Europe and the winner gets a free trip back.
Check the details at the site or for any questions contact me at

Nice article Erin!

the Erin 411 show sounds like a cool gig -- definitely a step in the right direction!

I'm a travel-holic / blogger / vloger myself... but I've been slacking on my video blogs as of late (too much time at the bars, it think)-- really need to step it up and get back in action!

Shameless self-promotion is my favorite of the 3 topics. I've realized that every "guru" or "star" in the fields that I follow has become an expert in this area. Self-promotion is paramount to getting what you want out of life. No one else is going to do it for you, unless they get paid to do it.
