Hey Sara,

Thanks for the comment. I agree that Web del Sol is good to go. A great resource. I just wish it had a more readable design. Very busy to me. .

Hadn't seen Newton's blog. Just checked out. It looks really good.

Fantastic list! You have done a great literary service. Thanks for bringing to light some of the cliches. If only beaches were as handsome as Clive Owen... youthful chaos would ensue.

I also like http://webdelsol.com/ and I always check Maud Newtown's Blog for thoughtful culture/history/lit insights: http://maudnewton.com/blog/index.php

I was happy to see you say: "And it should also give the reader a strong sense of place. In other words, the setting itself is almost like another character".

Much of travel writing is lost on adjectives, the rest on self promotion, the place be damned.

Refreshing to see the links you put up.

Great list of publications. Memoir can be helpful to those writers who one day may publish a travel journal or travel memoir!

thanks christine.

i'm a new reader of the sun, actually. really liked recent piece in there by <a href="http://www.mattoxroesch.com/" rel="nofollow"> Mattox Roesch</a> which led me to his work / blog. not many hommies writing about life 'close to the land' like he is--up in Alaska with his family.

have you ever published in Sun?

I can't believe you mentioned The Sun! My old co-worker in San Francisco, Tim McKee, is Managing Editor over there, and it's located in my alma-mater town, Chapel Hill. Purty cool.

And great list overall.

>>“Handsome beaches, bohemian design and youthful chaos"

Phrases like 'bohemian design' are definitely a bit tired. 'Youthful chaos' is not so bad but not thrilling either. I'm not sure in what way a 'handsome beach' is a cliche though. I've never heard a beach described as 'handsome' (rather than 'beautiful' or 'pretty') before in my life. To masculinise the beach in that way is quite interesting - the opposite of cliched.

A great list I look forward to checking out.

A brief look at the Memoir site already has me thinking new thoughts about how travel writing might fit into the “age of memoir” described on the site. Travel writing is, after all, writing about one’s personal life experiences, which is maybe why in the past it’s been something of a backwater, but may ride the wave of a memoir trend.

A great list Dahveed - I especially love HTML Giant and NewPages.com is a great resource site.

For Literary Journals, I would add Geographic Expeditions Recce
(http://www.geoex.com/recce/) featuring the positively brilliant Illuminations by noted travel author Don George.

Thanks for sharing your list!
