The web has so much more to offer. For example, I’m going to Chiang Mai in January, so I've been reading http://www.chiangmai-mail.com/ , an English language newspaper there. Before going to Nepal last year, I read a similar newspaper for a few months before leaving. People were amazed that I knew so much about the upcoming national election.
