El Coqui and Speaking Boricua-

Thanks for your input.
El Yunque is definitely worth a visit-- especially given that it's the only rainforest in North America.
And the advice about flying into Ponce, Mayaguez, or Aguadilla is also well-taken-- thanks for adding that. Jet Blue offers flights to several Puerto Rican cities.

3rd attempt at leaving a commnet :o)

Nice guide and thanks for mentioning Puerto Rico.

I would also add that El Yunque rainforest should be on peoples 'to-do' list. It's an easy 45 minute drive from San Juan and the trails take you into a lush greenery with awesome views.

also worth noting, that if you are considering spending most if not all of your time on the South coast or west coast, then you should consider flying direct to Ponce (south) or Aguadilla (west). Even though Puerto Rico is realtively small, the drive south or west can take up a chunk of time.

Enjoy the island

Nice guide for Puerto Rico.

I would also like to add that the El Yunque rainforest should also be on peoples 'to-do' list. About a 45 minutes drive from San Juan and you are in an amazing green lush forest. The trails are all relatively easy and the scenery is breathtaking.

also, for anyone planning on spending their time in the South or West of the island, consider flying directly into Ponce (south coast) or Aguadilla (West Coast). Even though Puerto Rico is relatively small, driving South or West from San Juan does take time.

Enjoy this caribbean jewel

Thanks, Tim. You know, when I was living in PR, very little about it seemed "green." As I wrote this article, though, I realized I had more material than any of the other green guides I've written. I think that's partly because of my experience as a tour guide there; I developed a much better sense of what qualified as green travel and I experienced all of these places/people first-hand... which goes along nicely with the article on BNT today. Hope everyone's checking that article out!

Nice guide.

I would have to add that another must-do activity is to visit the El Yunque rainforest. The drive is only about 45 minutes from San Juan. There are several trails that you can take, depending on how energetic you are feeling. Two of the trails will take you to a small waterfall, where you can cool off. If you prefer more adventure in the rainforest, check out the south side.

Note also, that if you are thinking of visiting the west or south parts of the island as your main destination, consider flying directly into Ponce (south coast) or Aguadilla on the west coast. Even though the island is not that big, drving to these two destinations from San Juan can take a while.

Enjoy this beautiful island
