While I have yet to do a big cycling tour, I've traveled in campervans with bikes on the back. Set up shop in a campsite and cycle around. I even did this in Paris, camping about a 30 min ride outside the city...what a great way to see the everyday bits. You truly get a much more in-depth experience of place by cycling. Damn straight.
